Maximum clip length, supported resolutions, aspect ratio options, and output quality directly determine what you can actually produce with each model. A model that generates beautiful 4-second clips is not useful if your project requires 10-second shots, and a model that supports 4K resolution is not useful if the quality breaks down at that resolution.

Clip length: what each model actually produces#

Clip length is one of the most important practical specifications because it determines whether a shot can be completed in a single generation or requires stitching multiple clips together.

  • Seedance 2.5: generates clips up to approximately 10 seconds, with the strongest quality in the 5-8 second range.
  • Veo 3: generates clips up to approximately 8 seconds, with consistent quality across the full duration.
  • Kling: generates clips up to approximately 10 seconds, with strong motion consistency throughout.
  • Runway: generates clips up to approximately 10 seconds, with options for extending through the platform's editing tools.
  • Hailuo: generates clips up to approximately 6 seconds, with strong quality for shorter shots.

Longer clips are not automatically better. The quality and consistency of motion often degrade toward the end of longer generations. For most production work, a 5-6 second clip with consistent quality is more useful than a 10-second clip where the last few seconds show artifacts or inconsistency.

Resolution and output quality#

Resolution support varies between models and affects the practical quality of the final output. Most models generate at 720p or 1080p natively, with some offering higher resolution through upscaling or premium generation modes.

The practical quality of the output depends on more than pixel count. A model that generates clean, consistent 1080p output may produce better final results than a model that generates 4K with visible artifacts. Aspect ratio options#

Aspect ratio support determines how well a model handles different output formats. Most models support 16:9 landscape and 9:16 vertical, but support for other ratios varies.

  • 16:9: standard landscape format for YouTube, presentations, and traditional video.
  • 9:16: vertical format for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Stories.

  • 21:9: ultrawide format for cinematic and theatrical presentation.

Models that support multiple aspect ratios give you more flexibility for multi-platform content from a single generation workflow. Models limited to one or two ratios may require additional cropping or composition adjustments for different platforms.

Motion quality vs resolution#

There is often a trade-off between motion quality and resolution. Some models produce better motion at lower resolutions, while others maintain motion consistency at higher resolutions. This trade-off affects how you should approach generation: start with the resolution that gives you the best motion quality, then upscale if needed for final delivery.

For most production work, motion quality matters more than resolution. A 1080p clip with smooth, consistent motion is more useful than a 4K clip with stuttering or inconsistent movement. The exception is for projects that will be displayed on large screens or in contexts where pixel-level detail is important.

Generation speed and queue times#

Speed varies significantly between models and affects how quickly you can iterate. Some models generate in seconds, while others may take minutes, particularly for higher resolutions or longer durations. Queue times also vary based on platform load and your plan tier.

For iterative creative work, faster generation allows more exploration and testing. For final production, slower generation with higher quality may be acceptable. Consider your typical workflow: if you test many variations before selecting a final output, generation speed directly affects your productivity.

Practical recommendations#

  • For social media content: prioritize models that support 9:16 vertical format and generate quickly at 1080p.
  • For YouTube and long-form content: prioritize models with longer clip lengths and consistent 1080p-1440p quality.
  • For advertising: prioritize models with strong reference image support and resolution that meets broadcast requirements.
  • For concept work: prioritize models with fast generation and good text-to-video capabilities.
  • For all use cases: test the model with your specific content type before committing to a production run.
